1. Define what “local” means before a story is selected
Scottdale is recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau as a census-designated place in DeKalb County, Georgia. The 2020–2024 ACS five-year population estimate is 10,542, with a margin of error of 1,543. That is geographic eligibility evidence, not evidence of legal demand, search volume, competition or case volume. A Scottdale reader may be asking about an incident in DeKalb County, a Georgia statute, a court decision or an event elsewhere in the state. Those are different relationships and should not be blended into one label. Georgia Courts also distinguishes among court-system resources and legal contexts; a city, county, judicial circuit and court class are not interchangeable.
Recommended approach
Ask Bosseo to show how a proposed story will identify its place, governing Georgia law and relevant court or agency context. Keep “Scottdale,” “DeKalb County” and “Georgia” separate in titles, copy and calls to action. Approve a page only when the geographic connection is explicit and useful to the reader.
