1. Start with the geography your firm actually intends to serve
A visitor’s location and your target market are different fields. University is recorded as a CDP in Orange County, Florida; it is not interchangeable with the county, the state or an unnamed metropolitan area. A useful attribution record should therefore preserve the landing page or campaign market separately from whatever location signal is available for the visitor. This matters when one page is intended for University while another addresses Orange County more broadly. The population estimate is context, not a forecast of inquiries or matters.
Recommended approach
Before reviewing attribution, list the geographic markets your firm actively wants to evaluate. Use University, Orange County and Florida as distinct labels where relevant. Ask to see how a report would prevent a visit from a nearby or otherwise different location being mistaken for a University-targeted opportunity.
