1. Define the geographic record before judging performance
A dashboard can only answer a geographic question that the firm has defined. Southwood Acres is a CDP, not a synonym for every household, individual or community in the surrounding Capitol Planning Region. The Census Bureau records the place relationship and population estimate, but that information cannot prove that residents are searching for a particular practice area or that a page, call or matter originated there. Before reviewing any location result, ask whether the dashboard distinguishes Southwood Acres from the broader county-equivalent geography, other Connecticut locations and statewide activity. Also ask whether “city” means the place named by a prospect, the page they visited, the caller’s location or another field. Those distinctions affect what a location trend can legitimately support.
Recommended approach
Create a written geographic definition for each report: Southwood Acres CDP, broader Capitol Planning Region, other named Connecticut locations and statewide totals. Approve no location-based conclusion until the firm can see the field behind it and understand how ambiguous or missing locations are handled.
