1. Define the geography before you read the numbers
A dashboard can become misleading when “Old Lyme,” the Lower Connecticut River Valley Planning Region, Connecticut and a metropolitan area are treated as interchangeable. They are not. Old Lyme is identified as a municipal town, and the cited Census record places it in the Lower Connecticut River Valley Planning Region. That relationship can inform how you name locations in a measurement plan, but the population estimate cannot be used as a proxy for legal need or marketing opportunity. Ask which geographic label belongs to each tracked keyword, landing page, call classification and attribution record. Also ask whether a city or town field means the person’s location, the page being viewed, or the service area selected in a report.
Recommended approach
Before evaluating performance, require a written geographic definition for every location dimension. Review Old Lyme separately from the planning region and from Connecticut-wide reporting. If the firm serves people outside town limits, decide how those inquiries will be represented rather than folding them into Old Lyme by default.
