1. Define the geography before setting the service area
Old Lyme is a municipal town in Connecticut, recorded in the Lower Connecticut River Valley Planning Region. That relationship matters when you decide how to describe coverage and where an inquiry may originate. A firm may serve Old Lyme without limiting its service area to the town, but the correct boundary depends on the matters the firm accepts and the locations it can responsibly serve. The Census population estimate describes Old Lyme town; it does not describe the population of the planning region, a metropolitan area, households or likely searchers. Bosseo’s public Local Service Ads page describes category and geography targeting, including practice-area categories and service areas. It also says those settings should be selected deliberately. That makes geographic definition a starting decision, not an assumption based on town size.
Recommended approach
Write down the locations your firm actually accepts before discussing targeting. Separate Old Lyme from the Lower Connecticut River Valley Planning Region and from any broader Connecticut coverage. Ask which locations should be included, excluded or reviewed separately, and whether a call from outside the preferred area would be useful, billable, or irrelevant.
