1. Start with the exact geographic scope of your reporting
A Montville report should not quietly combine the town with the Southeastern Connecticut Planning Region, Connecticut as a whole or nearby service areas. The Census record identifies Montville as a municipal town and records its county relationship as the Southeastern Connecticut Planning Region. It does not show how many people search for a lawyer, which practice areas are needed or where future clients will come from. That distinction matters when you decide what a source record should say. A report that labels every inquiry “Montville” may obscure whether the person sought help in the town, elsewhere in the planning region or through a broader Connecticut service area.
Recommended approach
Define the geographic labels your firm uses before reviewing attribution. Ask whether a lead record can preserve the service area stated by the prospective client, the landing page involved and the actual matter location without treating population as a demand forecast. Review Montville separately from the Southeastern Connecticut Planning Region when the distinction affects intake, advertising or budget decisions.
