1. Define the geographic view before reviewing Napa performance
The Census Bureau records Napa city as a municipality in Napa County and gives the city a 2020–2024 ACS five-year population estimate of 78,239, with a margin of error of 71. That is context for deciding which geography the firm wants to monitor; it does not establish legal demand, search volume, competition, leads or revenue. A Napa practice may need to distinguish Napa city from the wider county rather than treating every reference to “Napa” as the same market. During a dashboard review, ask how service-and-city targets are named, how county coverage is represented and whether a metric describes a place, a person or a household.
Recommended approach
Write down the geographic definitions for every tracked target before interpreting the figures. Require labels that make city and county scope clear, and do not use the city’s population estimate as a forecast of matters or marketing return.
