1. Put Myrtletown geography in the measurement definition
A local dashboard is only useful when its geographic labels are unambiguous. Myrtletown is a CDP in Humboldt County, not a synonym for the county, a metropolitan area or all of California. The Census estimate is evidence about the size of the place, not proof that residents are searching for a particular practice area or that a page will generate matters. When reviewing a dashboard, ask whether a ranking, call or lead is being described as Myrtletown activity, Humboldt County activity, California activity or something else. Also ask whether “city” fields describe a caller’s stated location, a page target or another source. Those distinctions affect budget conversations and prevent a small-area observation from being presented as a countywide result.
Recommended approach
Require a written geographic definition for every local view. Review Myrtletown separately from Humboldt County and California where the data permits, and do not use the Census population estimate as a forecast.
