About Concord

Concord, North Carolina is the county seat of Cabarrus County and is located just 20 miles northeast of Charlotte. It has a rich history stretching back to its founding in the late 1700s.

The town was originally called Concord, which means “harmony,” in honor of the battle that occurred there on April 19, 1775, during the American Revolution. The battle was fought between the British army and the local Minutemen, who were defending a colonial armory. The Minutemen succeeded in repelling the British troops, and this victory became a symbol of American resistance and the ideal of patriotism.

Concord grew and prospered after the Civil War with the help of several industries, including textiles and agriculture. In 1963, the Charlotte Motor Speedway was built, which brought an influx of visitors and tourism to the area. Today, Concord is home to numerous attractions besides the speedway, including Concord Mills Mall, Great Wolf Lodge Water Park, and several parks and golf courses.

Modern life in Concord offers residents access to affordable housing options with a variety of neighborhoods and lifestyles to choose from. The city’s population has steadily increased over the years and currently stands at around 95,000 residents. Despite this growth, Concord maintains a small-town vibe with friendly locals and wide-open spaces.

In recent years, Concord has become known for its vibrant arts and culture scene, including music festivals, outdoor concerts, community theater productions and art walks. The town also boasts an extensive parks system with over 20 parks covering more than 500 acres. Additional recreational opportunities include hiking trails in natural areas like Frank Liske Park and Lake Fisher as well as golfing at Rocky River Golf Course or Skybrook Golf Club.

The education system in Concord is impressive as well. The Cabarrus County School System is highly rated by parents and students alike with many schools receiving recognition for academic excellence. Additionally, there are several higher education options in the area, including Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and UNC Charlotte.

Overall, life in Concord offers residents an attractive mix of modern amenities, southern hospitality and historic significance. Whether it be enjoying a race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, exploring nature at one of the city’s parks or delving deeper into its rich history, Concord is a great place to call home.
