About Corona

Corona, New York is a neighborhood in Queens and has a very rich history dating back to Colonial times. Originally, Corona was a part of the larger village of Newtown, which was founded in the 1650s. Some of the first inhabitants of this area were the Native American Lenapes. The name “Corona” comes from the Spanish word for “crown,” which was used to describe the circular street pattern that was established in the early 1900s.

In the early 1900s, Corona became a popular destination for Italian immigrants who were leaving Europe in search of better opportunities in America. These immigrants established businesses and created a community around what is now known as Corona Plaza. As time went on, other groups of immigrants started to settle in Corona including Irish, Greek, and German immigrants.

One of the most significant events in Corona’s history occurred during the 1960s and 1970s when the city began a major urban renewal project in Corona. This project included the demolition of some of the old housing stock, which was replaced with newer housing developments like LeFrak City. Despite this, however, many of the original buildings in Corona survived and still stand today.

Today, Corona is a vibrant and diverse neighborhood, where people from many different cultures live side-by-side. You can find a wide variety of restaurants serving cuisines from all over the world and enjoy events like the annual Ecuadorian Day Parade or the Dominican Day Parade.

Living in Corona today means experiencing the best that New York City has to offer. With easy access to Manhattan via subway or bus, residents can enjoy all of the culture and entertainment that the city has to offer while still having a close-knit community feel. The neighborhood has seen a lot of development in recent years with new shopping centers, luxury condominium buildings, and improved parks and public spaces.

The diversity and rich cultural history of Corona make it a unique and exciting place to live. Despite its long history and urban renewal projects, the neighborhood has managed to maintain its character and identity over the years, making it a true gem of Queens.
